Merida is one of the cities that Spain keeps as a secret jewel for both visitors and locals that no one can expect for many reasons. In times of Roman Emperor Augustus, the city was founded as a military settlement and as an important crossroad and became one of the three capitals in the Iberian Peninsula. One can breathe its history while strolling the city and suddenly appears the Roman Temple of Diana, the Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre, the Aqueduct or one of the impressive Museo de Arte Romano.
Visigoths, Muslims and Christians left their own footprints too until recent times when it became the capital of Extremadura and W was named by UNESCO, one of the World Heritage Cities in Spain.
The town and region had been internationally awarded for its gastronomy and products such as the wines, the best jamon iberico and world awarded cheeses.
As part of the cultural impulse after its Festival Internacional de Teatro de Mérida, consider the best in Spain; the City of Merida´s authorities together with local musicians and partners are eager to promote live music activities in the city and particularly its MeridaJazz festival, and one of our goals is to celebrate MeridaJazz as its best from the beginning with opening dates from March until the end of June every year. The weather conditions that Merida has are unique and allows the festival to count with some of the most impressive venues in Europe as the Temple of Diana, the Roman Theatre or the Trajan Arch and several indoor venues such as modern auditoriums, belle epoque style theatres or jazz clubs.
Proud of how things are moving on for the coming 2025 year and much more proud of being part of this present real dream, we love to start announcing and promoting it internationally.
This year 2025 the MeridaJazz Festival program is almost ready to go with a very ambitious program and artists coming .
Will be soon announced but we are open for talk for the near future anytime.
